v-Warehouse

A "V" license, or "V-permit," issued by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), allows a facility to operate as an export warehouse for meat, poultry, and egg products. This license is necessary for any warehouse that intends to store and handle these products specifically for export to other countries.

  • Certification of Compliance: The V license certifies that the warehouse meets specific FSIS sanitation and food safety standards, which are required to ensure products remain safe for consumption and are acceptable for international markets.

  • Product Handling Authorization: With a V license, the warehouse is authorized to handle, store, and prepare products for export under regulated conditions, ensuring compliance with both U.S. and foreign requirements.

  • Inspection Requirements: Warehouses holding a V license are subject to FSIS inspections and must maintain records of all products handled. These records support traceability and compliance in case of an audit or inspection.

  • Documentation and Export Approval: The V license allows the warehouse to facilitate the necessary export documentation, including export certificates, which are essential for customs clearance in the destination country.

In essence, the V license enables export warehouses to legally store and manage USDA-inspected products, helping to maintain quality and regulatory compliance in the export process.

  • Food Safety: To prevent foodborne illnesses by ensuring products are free from harmful pathogens and contaminants.

  • Regulatory Compliance: To comply with the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry Products Inspection Act, and the Egg Products Inspection Act.

  • Export Requirements: To meet the specific import regulations of the destination country, which may have additional standards beyond U.S. requirements.

  • Label Accuracy: To verify that labeling is truthful and not misleading, including claims about the product's origin, ingredients, and processing methods.

  • HACCP System: Review and confirm the effective implementation of the HACCP plan.

  • Product Inspection: Examine products for safety, quality, and compliance with regulations.

  • Labeling Verification: Ensure labels are accurate and meet U.S. and importing country requirements.

  • Export Certification: Verify and endorse export documents and certificates.

  • Storage and Handling Verification: Check temperature controls and proper product segregation.

  • Record-Keeping and Traceability: Confirm accurate records for traceability and compliance.

  • Importing Country Requirements Compliance: Ensure products meet the specific standards of the destination country.
